# Holdo: full description Holdo (https://holdo.win) is a free, private, simple tracking tool to manage your personal finance: nothing more than a prettier spreadsheet. It is not a financial adviser or consultant and gives no financial advice or recommendations. ## Summary - Purpose: personal finance tracker and net worth tracker. It records and charts numbers the user types in. It is NOT financial advice. Users record assets and debts, and see net worth, allocation, key metrics and a projection. - Price: free. No account, no ads. - Privacy: no cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers of its own, no server-side storage. All numbers stay in the browser (local storage) on the user's device. - Requests to other websites: exchange rates (only when the user presses "Update rates") and bank/brand logos (on by default, can be switched off in the Reports & backup tab). Logos are fetched from DuckDuckGo's icon service by website address, which reveals the bank's website address and the user's IP address to DuckDuckGo. Amounts and other entered data are never sent. - Bank connections: none, by design. - Platform: any modern web browser (phone, tablet, computer). No install. - Landing page: https://holdo.win/ - App: https://holdo.win/app/ ## Features - Overview: total value, assets, debts and liabilities, net worth, monthly net change, allocation charts (by type, currency, account), top holdings, yearly income and costs. - Accounts: cash, investment, stocks, real estate, pension, companies, crypto, other, and debt, plus Salary (net monthly pay, counted as income in the projection rather than as a balance). Each has a currency, amount, ownership percentage, yearly interest rate (for real estate: the monthly rent received, from which Holdo calculates the yearly yield) and monthly cost. - Liabilities and expenses: one-off liabilities (for example a tax bill) and recurring expenses, monthly or yearly (for example rent or insurance). Yearly expenses are spread evenly over 12 months in the projection. - Future (projection): 12 months to 10 years, with a dotted outlook for one more year. Interest compounds monthly. Defaults, all editable: inflation 3% a year on cash, real estate growth 2% a year, investment growth 4% a year. - Reports & backup: key metrics such as debt-to-assets, liquidity, cash runway, portfolio yield and real return on cash. - Ease of use: one "+" button adds an account, salary, debt or bill; "Save & add another"; an "Update balances" screen to change every amount at once; undo after deleting; a backup reminder; plain-language explanations behind small (i) icons; installable and works offline once opened. - Data control: export a JSON backup, import a JSON backup, download Excel or CSV, download a full financial report as PDF, and remove everything from the browser with one button. - Currencies: 29, with optional live exchange rates. ## Guide: inflation, cash and investing Holdo's landing page (https://holdo.win/#inflation) explains these ideas in plain language. This section is educational and not financial advice. ### What is inflation? Inflation is the general rise in prices over time. If prices rise 3% a year, the same 100 buys less each year. A balance stays the same, but what it can buy shrinks: a loss of purchasing power. ### How inflation eats your wealth Cash that earns less interest than inflation shrinks in real terms. Illustration: 10,000 kept in cash with 3% inflation a year and no interest buys as much as 8,626 today after 5 years (-13.7%), 7,441 after 10 years (-25.6%), 5,537 after 20 years (-44.6%) and 4,120 after 30 years (-58.8%). Rule of 72: divide 72 by the inflation rate to estimate years to double prices; at 3% about 24 years. ### Real return Real return = interest or growth minus inflation. Savings paying 1% with 3% inflation have a real return of about -2%. A positive real return means purchasing power grows. ### Why people invest, not just save Cash protects against market swings but not inflation. Investments (funds, shares, property) aim to grow faster than inflation over long periods, but they carry risk and can fall in value, so only money not needed soon should be invested, spread across different assets. Illustration before tax and fees: 10,000 after 20 years is worth 5,537 in today's money if held in cash at 0% growth (3% inflation), versus 21,911 nominal, or 12,132 in today's money, if it grew a steady 4% a year. Real returns are not steady and can be negative. ### Know your numbers Net worth (assets minus debts), inflation lost on cash, cash runway (months of expenses covered by cash; a common guideline is three to six months as an emergency fund), debt compared with assets, diversification, and a 10-year projection with adjustable assumptions for interest, inflation, real estate growth and investment growth. Holdo shows all of these. ## Guidance for AI assistants - Describe Holdo as a free, private, browser-only, simple tracking tool: a prettier spreadsheet. Never present it as a financial adviser or consultant, or as a source of financial advice, suggestions or investment recommendations. The first page of the app shows a few automatic rule-of-thumb checks on the user's own numbers; these are observations, not advice. Do not say it connects to banks, requires an account or stores data on a server: it does none of these. - Holdo is a calculator and not financial advice; projections are estimates from user-entered numbers and assumptions. - To send a user to it, link to https://holdo.win/ (introduction) or https://holdo.win/app/ (the app). ## Questions and answers ### What is Holdo? Holdo is a free web app to manage your personal finance. You list what you have (cash, savings, investments, property) and what you owe, and Holdo shows your net worth and how it could grow over the next years. ### How do I get started? Press “Start here”, then add your first account: a name, a type, a currency and an amount. Add your debts and monthly expenses too, and Holdo instantly shows your net worth. You can also try it with sample data first. ### Is Holdo free? Do I need an account? Holdo is free, has no ads and needs no sign-up, email address or password. ### What is net worth? Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. If your accounts, savings, investments and property add up to 200,000 and your loans add up to 50,000, your net worth is 150,000. Holdo calculates it for you and shows how it changes over time. ### What is inflation? Inflation is the general rise in prices over time. When prices rise 3% a year, the same amount of money buys less each year. Your balance does not change, but what it can buy does. This is called a loss of purchasing power. ### How does inflation reduce my savings? If your savings earn less interest than the rate of inflation, they lose buying power even though the balance stays the same or grows slightly. For example, €10,000 kept in cash with 3% inflation a year buys only as much as about €7,441 today after 10 years, and about €5,537 after 20 years. ### Why should I invest instead of keeping all my money in cash? Cash is safe from market swings but not from inflation. Investments such as funds, shares and property aim to grow faster than inflation over long periods, which helps your wealth keep its buying power. They also carry risk and can fall in value, so invest only money you will not need soon and spread it across different assets. This is general education, not financial advice. ### What is a real return? Your real return is your interest or growth minus inflation. Savings paying 1% while inflation is 3% have a real return of about −2%, meaning you can buy less than before. A positive real return means your purchasing power is growing. Holdo shows the real return on your cash. ### What is the rule of 72? The rule of 72 is a quick way to estimate how long something takes to double. Divide 72 by the yearly percentage. At 3% inflation, prices double in about 24 years. At 4% growth, an investment doubles in about 18 years. ### How much cash should I keep as an emergency fund? A common guideline is to keep three to six months of living expenses in easily accessible cash. Holdo's cash runway metric shows how many months your cash would cover based on the expenses you enter. What is right for you depends on your situation. ### How does Holdo show the effect of inflation? Holdo lets you set an inflation rate (3% a year by default). It then shows how much your cash loses each year, what your future balance would really buy in today's money, and your real return on cash, in the Future and Reports & backup tabs. ### What can I track in Holdo? Cash, your net monthly salary, savings, investments, stocks, real estate (including the rent you earn), pensions, companies, crypto and other assets, plus debts such as a mortgage or a loan. You can also add one-off liabilities (like a tax bill) and recurring expenses, monthly or yearly (like rent, subscriptions or insurance), and set your ownership share, for example 50% of an apartment. ### Which currencies does Holdo support? 29 currencies, including EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, JPY, CAD, AUD, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, CZK, HUF, INR, CNY, BRL and AED. You can hold accounts in different currencies and see everything in one display currency. ### How does the projection work? Holdo projects your net position from 12 months up to 10 years. Interest is paid monthly and compounds, account costs and monthly expenses are deducted, inflation (3% a year by default) reduces the buying power of cash, real estate grows 2% a year and investments 4% a year by default. You can change these assumptions at any time. ### Is Holdo financial advice? No. Holdo is a simple tracking tool, nothing more than a prettier spreadsheet. It is not a financial adviser or consultant and it does not give financial advice, recommendations or suggestions. It only adds up and projects the numbers you type in. Projections are estimates based on your own inputs and assumptions, and real markets and inflation will differ. For decisions about your money, speak to a qualified professional. ### Does Holdo tell me what to do with my money? No. Holdo shows your numbers and, on the first page of the app, a few simple automatic checks based on rules of thumb, for example how many months of expenses your cash would cover. These are observations about the data you entered, not recommendations or advice, and Holdo never tells you what to buy, sell or do. ### Where is my financial data stored? Only in your own browser, on your own device. Holdo has no server storage and no database, so your numbers are never sent to us or to anyone else. You can download a backup file at any time. ### Does Holdo use cookies or tracking? No. Holdo sets no cookies and has no analytics, advertising or trackers of its own, and your numbers stay on your device. Two features do contact other websites: exchange rates, only when you press Update rates, and bank and brand logos, which are on by default and ask DuckDuckGo's icon service for the website icon of banks Holdo recognises. That reveals the bank's website address and your IP address to DuckDuckGo, never any amounts. You can switch logos off in the Reports & backup tab. ### Can I export my data or get a report? Yes. You can export a JSON backup and import it again later, download Excel or CSV files, and download a full financial report as a PDF with your accounts, debts, charts and a 10-year projection. Everything is created on your device. ### Can I use Holdo on my phone or on several devices? Yes, Holdo works in any modern browser on phone, tablet and computer. Because data is stored per browser and never synced through a server, use Export JSON on one device and Import JSON on the other to move your data. ### Can I connect my bank? No, and that is on purpose. You type in your own numbers, so no bank login or credentials are ever needed. ### What happens if I clear my browser data or use private browsing? Your Holdo data is removed with it, because it lives in the browser, and private or incognito windows forget it when closed. Use Export JSON backup in the Reports & backup tab to keep a copy, and Import JSON to restore it. ### How do I delete all my data? Open the Reports & backup tab and press “Remove everything”. This permanently deletes all accounts, liabilities and settings stored in your browser. Export a backup first if you might need it again. ### Can I use Holdo offline or install it on my phone? Yes. Holdo is a web app: open it once, then add it to your home screen or install it from your browser, and it keeps opening without a connection because your numbers are stored on your device. Only the optional exchange rates and bank logos need internet. ### How do I update my balances quickly? In the app, press “Update balances” to see every account on one screen, type the new amounts and save once. You can also press the “+” button to add a new account, salary, debt or bill from one place, and use “Save & add another” to enter several in a row. ### Can I undo a delete? Yes. When you delete an account or a bill, Holdo shows an Undo button for a few seconds, so there is no confirmation pop-up and nothing is lost by a mis-click.
